Over seven days, we camped across this Yemeni island's wild landscapes with the wonderful team from Traveling Socotra, accompanied by our guide Abdul-Raoof and our driver Hani, who seemed to know every hidden corner of the island. From towering limestone cliffs to sweeping sand dunes, turquoise lagoons to the iconic Dragon’s Blood Trees with their umbrella-shaped crowns, every day brought new surprises. Around a third of Socotra’s plant species exist nowhere else, and the same goes for much of its wildlife — it’s a living, breathing natural wonder.

But what made our week truly unforgettable wasn’t just the scenery. The whole Traveling Socotra team were warm, welcoming, and full of life, often breaking into song and dance as we sat around the campfire under star-filled skies.

Each night we slept in tents along beaches and mountainsides, waking to sunrises that lit up this floating rock in the Indian Ocean. Seven nights here felt like living in a dream — one where nature, culture, and friendship merge into an adventure you never want to end.

If you’re seeking a remote, rugged, and utterly adventurous escape, Socotra is the place you will never be able to forget.

Socotra

Socotra is unlike anywhere else on Earth — a remote island wedged between Yemen and Somalia , floating in what used to be pirate-infested waters of the Arabian Sea. Often described as the most alien-looking place on the planet, it feels like stepping into another world.
